L&L: Tell us a little about you and the history of Inn by the Sea.

INN: Inn by the Sea is located on sandy Crescent Beach in Cape Elizabeth- about 7 miles south of Portland. The Inn and Sea Glass, the inn’s restaurant, have lovely Atlantic views with lobster boats bobbing on the horizon. The seaside location has always had a hospitality property on it- years ago there  was a B&B, then the Crescent Beach Inn welcomed guests for decades, and finally 30 years ago, the luxurious Inn by the Sea was built.  The Inn went through a complete renovation in 2008 adding many modern, upscale amenities and design features.

Inn by the Sea is an intimate property with 61 luxury rooms, one and two bedroom suites and cottages. Guests enjoy a mile of sandy pristine beach, a cozy fireplace lounge, heated pool, full service SPA and indoor and outdoor dining with spectacular oceans views. The Inn hosts tented lawn functions in warm weather for up to 160 people, or smaller events inside with 1350 sq feet of available function space.

Inn by the Sea was one of the first luxury properties to accept pets- both dogs and their humans are welcomed with over the top pampering!

L&L: We hear you have some big renovations happening right now. When will the new space be open to the public, and what will it offer?

INN: The Inn by the Sea has just opened 10 newly constructed direct ocean view luxury Beach suites- these spacious suites have one or two King bedrooms, large bathrooms, living space & dining for 6 or 10, fireplaces and full kitchens, and fully furnished ocean view decks. The two bedroom suites have two bathrooms, indoor outdoor fireplaces and ample living space for entertaining.

L&L: How many weddings do you typically host each year? How far in advance do you typically book?

INN: We host about 15 weddings a year at Inn by the Sea. Ideally we’d like six months or more to plan a wedding, but we certainly have been successful accommodating celebrations of all sizes and types with only 30 days or less to work with!

L&L: Can you describe the available options for ceremony and reception locations on property including options for inclement weather.

INN: The front lawn at Inn by the Sea is the most popular place to have a ceremony because of the spectacular Atlantic views. Some couples enjoy working with the wardens at Crescent Beach to hold their ceremony on the unspoiled beach- Crescent Beach. In winter brides usually prefer to have the ceremony inside the Crescent Room. Receptions are tented on the lawn or inside in our function space.

L&L: How many guests can you accommodate for a wedding and overnight lodging? What are the largest and smallest weddings you have hosted?

INN: Inn by the Sea hosts weddings anywhere from a two person elopement to 160 person tented on the lawn. Winter weddings of 60 to 70 persons are also popular, and are held indoors. Or, with 61 rooms, guests are able to have an “estate buy out” and use the entire property for their wedding weekend if booked far enough in advance.

L&L: Do you offer both seated dinners and cocktail parties? Are there particular menus that couples choose from, or can couples request particular items?

INN: We have plated package options, as well as a stations option that may be either a heavy Hors D’oeuvres or buffet format. We will also work to customize a wedding to meet the bride and groom’s special wishes.

L&L: What special services or packages do you offer bridal parties? Tell us about your beautiful spa!

INN: Inn by the Sea offers a variety of options including elopement packages designed for the smaller wedding, packages that are all inclusive for any size with all the amenities the bride and groom will need for the day. We have an onsite wedding specialist, Jessica Nixon, available to help with any requests, and we will also create customized options for special requests.

SPA at Inn by the Sea is a relaxing place for the bridal party to unwind before or after the wedding. The SPA has a cardio room, steam room, experience showers, six treatment rooms and relaxing men’s and women’s sanctuaries for the ultimate in rejuvenation. A couples room offers side by side treatment options with a deep soaking tub for two.

L&L: What “must-see” places and eateries do you suggest to folks from out of town check out while visiting the area?

INN: Of course we think Sea Glass at Inn by the Sea is the best place to eat! Guests enjoy the captivating cuisine of Chef Kaldrovich either inside the intimate dining room, or al fresco on the sea side decks. The chef offers fresh local food featuring day boat catches, his hand made gnocchi specialties, as well as daily soups, a five course lobster menu and a full vegetarian menu. All baked goods are created daily by the inn’s pastry chef. However, Portland is a foodie destination, so if staying for several days we also recommend the short 7 mile drive to the urban chic small port city of  Portland, to try some of the great restaurants there as well.
