We love a barn wedding — the weathered wood, twinkly lights strung from rafters, picture-perfect green pastures, the list goes on. But if you don’t happen to have a farmer in the family, finding the perfect venue takes a little know-how.

We’ve rounded up just a few of our favorites from across Maine.

The Barn on Walnut Hill: Besides all the rustic charm of a turn-of-the-century renovated barn, this venue has plenty going for it. Located on four acres in North Yarmouth, Maine, just a half hour from Portland, The Barn on Walnut Hill is imminently accessible. And once you’re there, relax in the elegant comfort of their farmhouse accommodations. A few other perks: 1,750 square feet of entertaining space, an onsite chef, and a full bar with tractor seat barstools in a former chicken coop.

Laudholm Farm: Another southern Maine jewel, Laudholm is situated on more than 2,000 acres of protected lands within the Wells Reserve. The farm, once the largest saltwater farm in York County, is a nationally recognized historic site offering a variety of settings, from the expansive lawns to a full kitchen to a stunning restored barn. Plus, your fees benefit ongoing efforts to protect the reserve.

Saltwater Farm: You’ll find this venue in the town of Martinsville on Maine’s St. George peninsula, tucked between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. The restored clapboard farmhouse is located on 100 private acres with stunning ocean views and a hayfield tailor-made for wedding portraits. Enjoy six bedrooms, two working fireplaces and plenty of room for lawn games with loved ones.

1812 Farm: Overlooking the Maine coast from atop a hill in Bristol, Maine, 1812 Farm boasts a restored barn with wide lawns and verdant gardens. We’ve featured the farm before, but we just can’t say enough about its mix of authentic history and modern amenities, including a bridal suite and underground utilities. Host a lobster bake in the summer or sleigh rides in the winter, as this venue is open year round.

The Barn at Hardy Farm: The Barn at Hardy Farm is a brand new wedding venue in a restored 18th century farmhouse in the White Mountains of Maine. The barn’s horse stalls now stand empty, but the farm’s heritage has been preserved by retaining much of its original charm while updating the amenities to today’s contemporary standards of comfort and luxury.
