Wedding weight loss

We continue following the wedding plans of Maine transplant Jen Pepper.

I am not a small girl. I really never have been. Even during my athletic years I was still a little meatier than the other gals on the field hockey team. What can I say? I really like food and I really dislike the treadmill. But the idea of not being happy with myself in my own wedding photos has me putting down the fork and putting on trainers.

Part of this lifestyle change is being 100% honest with myself and in turn the people around me, so here it goes! I am 5’9″ and at my heaviest I weighed 252 lbs. I decided enough was enough and joined the Weight Watchers online plan in 2009. I was really gung-ho about losing weight and followed every detail of the plan for about 3 months and lost about 20 lbs. Then I got stuck. The scale stopped moving down and I was really frustrated so I gradually slipped off the plan and stopped looking at my weight.

When we moved to Maine, and finally got the scale out of it’s cardboard box I was back up to 243 lbs., which is what I weighed the day Matt proposed to me. I know he loves me just the way I am, but I don’t love myself at this weight. So this time around I am back on Weight Watchers and staying on track until I get to my goal weight of 180 lbs!

Now I know it’s very unlikely that I will reach my goal before the wedding next June, so my wedding goal is 199 lbs. It’s not going to be easy, that’s for sure, but it’s going to be so worth it! Matt has been really supportive and helped steer me away from my bad food choices and has even been packing my lunch in the morning so I can make good decisions when I am away from home.

There are some things I have given up completely, like soda and fast food. But I am okay with that. I still get to enjoy a light beer occasionally, and those individually wrapped dove chocolates that taste like heaven. This isn’t about a quick fix with diet pills or a juice cleanse. This is a lifestyle change so I can be happy and healthy and madly in love for as long as I am blessed to be on this planet! It’s going to be a long journey to get me into the wedding dress of my dreams but I am on my way there! Current weight: 228 lbs. and dropping!

Thank you so much for sharing with such honesty! Best of luck on your journey from a fellow Once Upon a Time Maine girl who is also 5’9” and struggling with some serious food blogger extra poundage ;)

Jen, Thanks so much for sharing. So much of what you wrote I could have written myself. I’ve been on the engagement-inspired weight watchers train since October, lost 25 initially, and have been losing and gaining back the same 5 pounds for about four months. I’m trying to find the inspiration to keep going and get to my goal. Best of luck to you, I hope you continue to write about your journey – its got me feeling motivated! Thanks again! -another Jen
