Scent of a man

Stumped about gifts for your groomsmen? Why not bestow upon each a set of handmade candles to adorn his home?

Wait, before you write off this article as hopelessly out of touch with reality — we’re talking about Castine Candle Company’s “Man Cave Collection,” a set of six scented candles that, oxymoronic as it might sound, wouldn’t get laughed out of a hunting lodge. Crafted with the finest ingredients by this family-owned company situated in a seaside Maine town, these candles are hand-poured into pint glasses and colored to mimic the shades of beers straight from the tap. The Lights Out candle, “Your guiding flame when the lights are out,” carries an aroma of men’s cologne in homage to a dark stout, while the Deer Camp candle, “Where men and guns are optional,” smells of woodsy cedar but looks like 16 ounces of your favorite tasty ale.

The candle collection even earned a mention on the Today Show, though oddly during the least fella-friendly segment of the show, the nonstop gabfest that is Hoda Kotbe and Kathie Lee Gifford. Now those two gals would get laughed right out of a (pleasantly fragrant) hunting lodge.
